Geogrpahy Thought Provokers
Using the thought-provokers off of the Geogspace website students will be given the questions and the different responses to look at on the board first. The students will then follow a think pair share and share again model. In the groups that the students form from this sharing part of the activity they will then organise cards with the responses on them in the order of relevance that they feel as a group is relevant.
The class will then discuss what the order they chose was and any thoughts they have about the questions and responses.
The class will then discuss what the order they chose was and any thoughts they have about the questions and responses.
Student Instructions:
- Up on the board are some questions that you will need to think about as well as some responses that could help answer the questions. Once you have thought about eh question and have some sort of answer you will then pair up to share ideas. Once you have shared thoughts in your pairs you will then join another pair to share the ideas, then join another group to share your ideas again.
- Then using the cards with the responses and questions, you will need to place the responses in the order of relevance to the question.
- We will then share our order of the responses and any thoughts about them with the class.

BackGround Information:
Teachers will need to make sure that they are clear on the questions that the students will be answering and the responses that they will be ordering. It would also be a good idea for teachers to have an idea of the order that they might place the responses.

Assessment As, For and of Learning
Assessment for Learning: This activity provides teachers with the opportunity to gather some information about how the students are thinking in this area. Teachers can also gain knowledge by listening for the correct terminology being used by the students or if they are vague in their explanations. This activity will help teachers see if the students have any confusion or are struggling to understand the concepts that are being taught through some deep thinking that is necessary for this activity.
Adjustments for Student Learning:
Students will be thinking up their own opinions and then sharing them with other students. It will be made clear from the beginning that there is to be now judgement about what people think in relation to the questions. For those students who need help with reading the questions fellow students or the teacher will be able to read it or help with reading and the questions will also be projected up onto the class board.
