Discover an unequal world
Using the website Gapminder students will examine the differences between Austria and other countries in relation to a number of different factors such as wealth, population and health. Students will need to take note of noticeable differences between the different countries and in relation to Australia. They will then also need to try and hypothesis why this might be happening and what might be affecting it. The students will then pair up to share their thinking and then share with the class their findings and their hypothesis on why this may be occurring in certain countries.
Student Instructions:
- Go to the website Gapminder.org and find the necessary data entries, then bring them up as a visual.
- You will need to look at the differences between the different countries and the changes that have occurred over time. How do these differ between each of the countries and also Australia?
- Once you have taken down some notes and thought up some ideas you will then pair up with another student to share what you have found and share you hypothesis.
- We will then come back together as a class to discuss this further and also see what everyone has found out.
